AMATEUR RADIO HELPING OUT AS COMMUNICATION VOLUNTEER AT EVENT CANCER SOCIETY –RELAY FOR LIFE KL 2009 ON 30 MAY 2009.

The National Cancer Society of Malaysia will be having their third Relay for Life (RLF) on the 30 th May from 6 pm to 10 am 31 May at the MSN Training Stadium , Bukit Jalil.

United Amateur Radio members from many clubs have been supporting this event since the beginning. This event is growing in number every year , and NCSM needs our help to assist them.

We are looking for Amateur Radio volunteers from any Society/Clubs/individuals to help us jointly in providing communication for this event as part of our Amateur Radio community service and civil communication.

Half a booth to exhibit our amateur radio equipments and information on our hobby . Those who wants to exhibit their equipment to the public can do so free of charge . As there is no charge, there will not be any selling we can only display equipments, educational materials and posters .

If any Amateur Radio clubs / society or individuals would like to register their team to participate in this event and parade on the track can register at their website : www.cancer.org.my

We need 20 main volunteers so please inform us early as we need to plan this event now.

Its an all night event and we need many volunteers to work in shifts. Our duty will mainly be to provide communication but we will be required to assist in light crowd control, logistics,the medical units, F&B section, program coordination and many more.

If you just want to join in the fun and support this event for a good cause come join us on that day and register on the spot or you can register early through the website. Bring the family and lets us all enjoy this all night event together. You can rent a tent or bring your own tents.

This would be a good platform for us to jointly work and train together as a team for future communication requirements.

Thanks a lot guys for volunteering at the Relay for Life event at Bukit Jalil. The response was overwhelming. We had 21 stations on that day which to my mind is great. We had fun and to the stations that did a lap or more - great guys and thank you for your support.

Are you free this weekend? Are you looking for some fun filled activities with your family and yet be a part of community work? Or you just want to 'eye ball' with fellow members?

If you say 'yes' to the above - then join the amateur radio members at the 'Relay for Life' event at Bukit Jalil. For the first time in HAM history, regardless of club affiliation, HAM members will gather to pay tribute to the survivors, care givers and all involved with the event.

HAM members will be providing and assisting the organisers in what we do best - providing communications and promoting the hobby.

There will be many activities and competition for the family, fun and games for children. Fellow HAM member 9W2MKK who is cycling for charity from Taiping to Bukit Jalil will be arriving about 1500H on that day.

If you have a friend who is interested in becoming a member of the HAM community, there will be an exhibition booth to cater for their interests and curiosity.

To further promote the event, there will be a 2 meter net conducted and all HAM enthusiasts are welcome to log in. Just give your handle, QTH, RST and your message. We are working towards having the event on the air from 2100H to 2200H on 9M2RKK and then from 2201H t0 2301H on the 9M4RES. Join in the fun and remember the 2 meter net is to create awareness amongst members and those who would like to make a wish towards their family and friends lost or suffering from Cancer.

RELAY FOR LIFE CALLING FOR VOLUNTEERS

LOCAL EVENT: NATIONAL CANCER SOCIETY EVENT AT BUKIT JALIL 31 MAY "RELAY FOR LIFE"

The national cancer society is holding an event "relay for life"

Walk the track in Bukit Jalil stadium in support of cancer patients struggling with the illness. Many of us have had family members or friends who lost their life to cancer or suffering from cancer - so let us give them the support they need!

Amateur Radio is forming a team to participate in the event to be held on 31 May 2008 at 6pm until 6 am next morning at Bukit Jalil Stadium.

It is an overnight team event held in a carnival-like atmosphere filled with fun, comradeship and festivities. Participants have lots of fun as they challenge themselves and take turns to complete a relay style walk/ run. It is a time when people of various walks of life team up to raise public awareness about cancer in the community and to raise funds to find the cure.

In addition to the team members who are walking the track, hundreds of other participants are expected to camp out, create a community party atmosphere.

We need volunteers to participate as a team or as a communication liaison.
